Belief in Allah with Love Hope and Fear 3 of 3

A Justly Balanced Nation

Allah says:

“Thus have We made of you a nation justly balanced, that you may be witnesses over the people and the Messenger a witness over yourselves.” [al-Baqarah (2:143)]

The moderate way in Islam does all of the following:

Warns against heading toward the extreme of zealousness, and too much nonchalance.

Incorporates a balanced approach that distinguishes it from other religions.

This balanced way is known as “The Straight Path”

Guide us to the straightway, the way of those upon whom You have bestowed Your grace, not those whose (portion) is wrath nor those who have gone astray. [al-Fatiha 1:6-7)]

The Prophet (saws) said:

“On the Day of Resurrection, Noah will be brought and asked, ‘Did you convey (the message)?’ He will say, ‘Yes, O Lord.” They will answer, ‘No warner came to us.’ He (the Lord) will say (to Noah), ‘Who are your witnesses?’ He will answer, ‘Mohammed and his nation.’ Then you (i.e. the followers of Mohammed) will be brought and will give witness.” Then the Messenger of Allah (saws) read the verse,
“Thus have We made of you a nation justly balanced,” – he stated, “(That is) just – “that you may be witnesses over the people and the Messenger a witness over yourselves.” [al-Bukhari]

Hudaifah ibn al-Yaman said:

“Beware of Allah, O Quranic reciters (i.e. religious scholars) Follow the path of those before you. Then you will be the best of leaders. But, if you go right or left then you will go far astray.” [al-Bukhari]

Umar ibn Abdul-Aziz wrote to one of his workers, advising him to follow the path of the Companions:

There is no room to of all short of them and there is no room to go beyond them. Some people shortened the matter and fell short. Some people went above them and therefore went to extremes. They (the pious predecessors) were between that (those two extremes) upon a straight guidance.” [Recorded by Abu Dawud]

Ibn al-Qayyim wrote:

“Allah does not make any command except that Satan has two incitements (towards it), either to negligence and neglect or to excess and exaggeration. The religion of Allah is in a middle position between being aloof from it and exaggerating in it.

The one who is aloof from a matter loses that matter, the one who exaggerates also loses that matter. The first by not meeting the minimum requirements the second by going beyond the limits.” [Madarij-ul-Salikin. See also al-Fawa’id and ash Shanqiti’s Adwa-ul-Bayan.]

Causes that brings about the Love of Allah

  • ·         We want to Love Allah because doing so results in His loving you which in turn brings about:
  • ·         You become close to Him
  • ·         He will provide for you from sources unknown
  • ·         He will protect you
  • ·         He will bestow understanding of the deen(religion) upon you
  • ·         He will never put one whom He loves in the hellfire

Things to do that will cause you to love Allah

Recognizing the bounties Allah has bestowed upon His slaves. These bounties (are so many that they) cannot be counted or enumerated. (Allah says): “If you count the blessings of Allah, never will you be able to count them.” [Q14:34]

Another cause is to have knowledge of Allah by

  • ·         His Names
  • ·         Attributes
  • ·         Actions

The one who knows Allah, loves Him. Whoever loves Him, obeys Him. Whoever obeys Allah is honored by Him. Whoever Allah honors, He will have him live close to Him. Whoever lives close to Him, has attained the glad tidings.

More things:

Pondering over the creation of the heavens and earth and what Allah has created. In the Quran there is much mention of the signs of Allah that indicate His Greatness, Power, Majesty, Perfection, Eminence, Compassion, Mercy, Strength, Subjugation and other of His beautiful Names and exalted Attributes. Whenever one’s knowledge of Allah is strengthened, one’s love for Him is also strengthened and one’s love for obeying Him is also strengthened. He will then experience the pleasure of worship, whether it be in prayer, remembrance or other forms of worship.

More causes of Love for Allah:

  • ·         To act towards Allah with sincerity and purity while going against one’s desires.
This is a cause for Allah to bless a slave and when He blesses the slave, the slave loves Him.
  • ·         Increasing one’s remembrance of Allah.

Whenever a person loves something, he remembers it more often. And it is through the remembrance of Allah that the hearts find tranquility.
  • ·         Reciting the Quran often and pondering over its meaning, in particular those verses that contain Allah’s Names, Attributes and Actions.
Having fondness for that action will lead the slave to love Allah and Allah to love him.
  • ·         Remembering what has been mentioned in the Quran and the Sunnah

Especially concerning the believers seeing their Lord in the Hereafter and visiting them and gathering together on the Day of Abundance.

Remember:
Loving Allah leads to His Loving you and His Loving you leads to your Salvation.
